What you want to know but are too scared to ask about in-home sessions!

As a Washington DC photographer, I know what holds you back from booking an in-home family session. I get it. And I know you might be hesitant to ask the hard questions even when we’re talking on the phone during your pre-session consult.

And that’s ok, but I don’t want you to be worried about your in-home family session. But, I want you to relax and enjoy it and leave the work to me!

So, here’s what you want to know, but don’t want to ask!

The hard questions answered by your Washington DC Family Photographer!

1. We live in a small apartment – will we have enough room to do a session?

Yes! Your home doesn’t need to be huge! We just need a few spots with good light – that’s it! I’ve done sessions in apartments and townhomes. It’s my job to find the light – that’s why we do your session on a day that has some sun!

2. We don’t have a professionally decorated home – will it look bad in pictures?

It doesn’t need to look like something out of Architectural Digest. And the majority of the homes I shoot in are not professionally decorated and they are perfect! In fact, some of my clients are in rental homes and unable to paint and decorate the way they want. It’s not a big deal! I’ll find the best spots and I promise you will love the final images.

3. What if my house is too dark?

You don’t need huge windows and glass doors everywhere. I’ll find the light and I promise you every house has windows! And there are so many tricks to get light into a space. I have you open all the blinds and curtains before I arrive. I love a backlit image and I often put my clients close to a window of glass door. So no need to worry!

4. What if our house is painted with dark colors like navy?

Your home doesn’t have to have all white or light colored walls. Colors add a lot to images! I love some contrast and dark walls create that.

5. What if my house is a mess!?!

Trust me, you don’t have to hire a cleaning crew for your session! A little tidying up is all you need to do. And I’m happy to move some things if they are distracting in a picture. Believe me when I say most of my pictures have toys (or even laundry and dishes in the sink) just out of the shot!
