Can you keep a newborn girl session neutral and still have it be girly? Of course you can!
Miss E came to the studio with her three (yes-THREE) older siblings. (Mom and Dad have their hands full!) She is such a good baby. Slept most of her session and never made a peep.
When I sent mom the Newborn Styling Questionnaire she marked tans and neutrals, dark wood backdrop, and a newborn bed. She also requested touches of pink. When you think of neutrals and tans and creams, you don’t exactly think GIRL, right? Well, I can certainly make and look girly with touches of pale pink and still keep that neutral overall feel.
Looking at these portraits, there is no question that Miss E is a newborn girl! I used the palest of pinks in headbands, a bonnet and a wrap. The headbands had tans in them, too, giving them a very organic, soft look.
Girly sessions do not have to be over the top pinks and purples and all this “girl”. I strive to keep my newborn sessions as simple as possible, which means all of my props and newborn accessories are just that, SIMPLE. I try to mix textures to give the portraits more depth and interest. I used a hand knit bump blanket and a burlap layer.
I love styling newborn sessions using the selections you make in the questionnaire. Would you like to hear more about my newborn sessions and how the process works? Please request a complimentary consult with me!
