I can’t begin to tell you how many times people ask me what’s in my camera bag!  So, I thought I would break it all down for you.

I’m a Nikon Girl

When I started out on my photography journey, my husband bought me a Nikon D60 because I had heard good things about it on a blog I read. No other reason. I didn’t do any research and I didn’t even go to the store to look at the camera. Simply went off a recommendation from someone I didn’t personally know on the internet…probably not the best way to purchase a camera!But, I loved it and have bought Nikons ever since. From the D60, I upgraded to the D7500. And then I made the BIG leap to a full frame camera – the D600. In fact, I still have that camera as a second back-up.When the D750 came out, I knew I had to have it!  And I currently own two of them. I started to sell one and then decided I couldn’t part with it. That’s a lot of cameras!I’m super intrigued by the mirrorless cameras and might rent one to try it out, but I’m not ready to make that switch yet.

What I Love About Nikon

Nikons just feel good in my hands. It’s hard to explain.  But I’ve picked up other brands of cameras and they just don’t feel right.I love the noise the shutter make when you click it. Weird, right? But, I love it!Nikon’s color is the bomb. I’m sure some people would disagree, but I am always happy with the color I get from my Nikons.

Lenses

I have had A LOT of lenses over the years. Mostly Nikon lenses with a few Sigmas thrown in. Here’s what I currently own.My Favorite: Nikon 35mm 1.4This lens is probably on my camera 90% of the time. It’s the PERFECT lens for newborn photography, in home sessions and studio work.  It’s wide enough to be in a small space. My lens has had a scratch for the past 2 years…cue all the tears, but thankfully the lens focuses beyond the scratch and it doesn’t impact my pictures.Back-Up: Sigma 35mm Art Lens 1.4With a scratched 35mm lens and lots of positive recommendations from fellow photogs, I bought the Sigma 35mm Art Lens. But, I’ll be honest, I haven’t used it. It’s need to be calibrated with my camera so the focus is tack sharp and that means leaving my camera and my lens at a camera shop possibly overnight. I made a promise to myself to do this in the next month. So, stay tuned for Sigma pics!First Lens: Nikon 50mm 1.4This was my first portrait lens.  The “nifty-fifty” and I LOVED it when I first started out. But as I got more into newborns, I realized I needed a wider lens. This lens still goes to every session with me, but it’s rarely used.Best Outdoor Lens: Nikon 135mm 2I mean the bokeh (background blur) with this lens is crazy amazing! Mainly because I have to stand about 20 feet away from clients, but truly this lens is magic. The tones and colors are dreamy. And even though it’s a big, heavy lens – I adore it!

Odds and Ends

There are a few other things that are ALWAYS in my camera bag…

• microfiber cloths to clean away dust

• extra batteries

• a battery charger

• extra SD cards

• and my business cards
