Two Ways I’ve Elevated My Personal Style

Today’s post is a personal one, and I’m so excited to share with you what I’ve learned this year about dressing in a way that helps me feel confident. I’ve always enjoyed shopping and fashion, and I’ve never met a dress I didn’t like, so it’s fun for me to explore new ways to approach shopping for myself and styling my favorite outfits.

Leveling Up

This past year, I’ve leveled up my fashion game in two meaningful ways, and in addition to learning that my style “season” is winter, I now know what colors look best on my body and the most flattering cuts of clothing to wear for my body type.

Because personal style and clothing choices are also important when dressing yourself and your family for a photography experience, I figured this would be a helpful post to use as inspiration for your next session, too! Let’s dive into two investments I’ve made to help me embrace my personal style.

Personal Style Resources

  1. Getting My Colors Done by House of Colour

Getting my colors done by House of Colour was such a fun experience! My consultant used a variety of drapes in different shades and tones of colors to help determine what colors look best with my skin tone, and it was fascinating to learn how much of a difference wearing colors that compliment your coloring makes!

Another perk of the color analysis was realizing that when I wear colors in my “season” (I’m a sprinter winter!), I don’t need to wear as much make-up to feel confident. In addition, knowing your colors makes you feel more confident because every color you wear looks good and brings out your best features.

  1. Hire a Personal Stylist to Dress Me According to My Body Type

The next investment I made was to hire a personal stylist, Niki Whittle, to help me learn how to dress for my body type. I initially hired Niki to (virtually) go through my spring and summer clothing and help me choose items to fill in my wardrobe. That was such a helpful experience that I hired her again last month to help me choose pieces for fall and winter!

After Niki learns your body type, she creates a lookbook for her clients using both pieces they have in their wardrobe and pieces they’re looking to invest in. Niki works with your budget and tailors her recommendations to your needs. Her ability to help me find pieces that fit perfectly and can be styled in multiple ways has been worth every penny to me! I feel SO good dressing myself now.

I truly feel that our personal style and clothing choices can be a source of confidence, and learning what colors and styles look best on my body has been such a game-changer for me! Dressing yourself well can feel like an extension of self-care because of the positive emotions that you experience when you are happy with the way you look. We’re all worthy of feeling good about ourselves!
