Every baby is a gift. A Rainbow Baby is an extra special gift. As a Vass newborn photographer, I am honored to photograph every newborn that enters my studio, but a rainbow baby has a special place in my heart.
A rainbow baby is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better. The rainbow is more appreciated having just experienced the storm in comparison. Such a beautiful symbol.
I have a rainbow baby myself. I suffered a miscarriage when my oldest son was two. We were blessed with our rainbow baby eleven months later. At that time (2001), I’m not sure rainbow baby was a term or at least I had never heard it. However, it is a beautiful description of that little life after a difficult loss. My Charlie is my rainbow baby.
I have had many rainbow babies in my studio and I love celebrating them in different ways. I have two lovely rainbow wraps, as well as, a small rainbow and a rainbow heart that can be tucked into the baby’s arms. These simple touches symbolize so much to the moms, dads and families that have experienced loss.
I used my primary color rainbow wrap on little J. Just one striking image, but it literally brought tears to his mom’s eyes when she saw it in the slide show at her ordering session. She ordered a watercolor print of the image, too. A special way to remember this precious gift.
I am a Vass newborn photographer who wants to know your story and document it for you. I want to capture tiny feet, little fingers, back rolls, downy hair, and sweet sleepy smiles. I want you to treasure these images and remember this special time now and always.
