Are all newborn sessions long?
I know what you’ve heard from friends, “ Our newborn session lasted 4 hours!” Or “Our session was 3 hours and my toddler was a nightmare!”
And this probably makes you worry about the session and what to expect! Four hours for a photography session with a newborn (and maybe your toddler) sounds overwhelming. How in the world will they cooperate that long? I’m tired just thinking about it!
Take a deep breath and keep reading.
NPS Photography’s in-home newborn sessions typically last an hour to an hour and a half depending on if the baby needs to eat during the session. That’s right, just an hour and you don’t have to leave your home!
Why are some newborn sessions longer than others?
There are a number of factors that go into the length of a newborn session.
-
Type of session.
Posed sessions take A LOT more time. The baby has to be asleep and the photographer does multiple set-ups to get variety.
Natural sessions are just that…natural. The baby is photographed when they are awake and/or asleep. The photographer captures the baby and your family authentically – just being you!
-
Hungry baby
Yes, hunger comes into play! I’m a firm believer that when a baby needs to eat, they need to eat! It does take time to feed a baby and that can certainly add time to your session.
-
Toddlers
With a posed newborn session, family pictures are posed and that can mean a bit of toddler wrangling and possibly some bribery to get them to look at the camera. Which all takes time.
In-home sessions are much more relaxed. Toddlers come and go while pictures are being taken and the family is captured authentically, so this helps keep the session time down.
Others Things to Consider
Something else to keep in mind, if you choose an in-home session, you don’t have to drive anywhere! The photographer comes to you. So, that four hour session at a studio is longer if you add on the travel time to and from the studio.
There are so many reasons for an in-home session beyond how long the session lasts! You have everything you need at home – brushes, snacks, diapers, outfits if someone needs a change,
Older children have their toys and the space they are most comfortable – another major bonus!
Bottom line, you can choose a newborn session that works best for your family. There are options and you don’t have to spend 4+ hours to capture those magical moments with your new addition.
NPS Photography offers in-home newborn sessions that capture your beautifully, unscripted moments.
