Blur of Motherhood: A Washington, DC Photography Project

motherhood – noun state of being a mother

I brainstormed words that describe motherhood to me…

love

guilt

intense

patience

unconditional

beautiful

soul sucking

soul giving

devotion

selfless

hard

magical

emotional

unpredictable

a blur.

A blur. When I think back to mothering littles, blur best describes it.

Motherhood is a jumble of emotions that change from one second to the next and at times feels like an out of body experience.

Black and white images are always raw with emotions to me. You strip away the color and are left with expressions and feelings.

My Blur of Motherhood Project marries these two – black and white images that show the blur (emotionally and visually with motion blur).

Over 30 moms applied for the DC Blur of Motherhood project…so honored! And I chose 7 moms based on their applications and the thoughtfulness of their answers to the questions.

There is nothing like photographing moms and their children. Their connection, their tenderness, their love.

Thank you to everyone who participated. It was a honor to capture your blur during this stage of your motherhood journey.

If you are interested in participating in a project in the future, please make sure you’re on my newsletter list! Emails are never shared.

I'm DC photographer, Natasha Sewell. I'm all about capturing those unscripted, full-of-personality moments in the comfort of your home.

As a mom of three and a former elementary school teacher turned in-home newborn and family photographer, I know how to get your littles to cooperate and have FUN!

Let’s get to preserving your family's real-life moments in the place you’re most comfortable – your home.
