I have always been enamoured with black and white photos.
Where My Love Began
I grew-up in a home where black and white photos adorned the walls. Shelley Langston was a natural light black and white photographer based in Georgetown in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. She had a beautiful studio right on Wisconsin Avenue and specialized in mothers and children. She even used the photos she took of me in 1974 in a published photographic essay called Natasha’s Birthday. Her other books include The Child and The Mother – both of which I have acquired over the years and treasure.
My parents had prints and albums of our sessions with her and I am truly blessed to have such amazing photographs from my childhood.
I think those photographs spurred on my love of black and white photos.
Black & White Photos Feel
Black and whites highlight real emotions and have so much depth. I find myself converting my favorite images from sessions to black and white. They just speak to me!
I always try to include a few black and white photos in every photo session. And I’m thrilled when my clients choose them over the color options. I’ve had a number of clients chose framed black and whites over the years. Can you think of anything better than a black and white gallery wall? I can’t!
Heirloom Photos
I’ve also done some heirloom photo sessions over the years. Heirloom photos are very traditional (you might even have some of your parents or grandparents). Such a classic way to have your child captured!
I am THRILLED to announce that I am launching Heirloom Sessions in DC for children who can sit up independently (typically over 9 months)!
They are scheduled in September and are the perfect way to capture your child in this age + stage.
And, although I love black and whites, you will also have the choice of choosing your images in color.
Personality Sessions
What on earth is a Personality Session?
A sessions that shows off your child’s TRUE personality!
Let them dress themselves (costumes and pjs are welcome) and bring a favorite toy or stuffy. Then, stand back mom and dad and let your little SHINE!
These sessions are the perfect way to truly document your child at this age + stage.
You will also have color images along with the black & white to choose from in your gallery!
