In-Home Sessions are the Best Sessions

Many of you know I’ve been photographing newborns and families for nine joy-filled years, and that I’m passionate about in-home photo sessions. Did you ever wonder why? If so, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve got a whole list of what’s to love about photographing your family at home, and how it makes the session easy for moms and kids alike.

6 Reasons You’ll Love an In-Home Session

Climate Control

Is it too hot out? Is it too cold? Maybe this is a bit of a trick question, because the correct answer is it doesn’t matter! Your home has air-conditioning and heat, and whatever is happening outside – be it hellacious humidity or an unexpected cold snap (like my 8 am outdoor session from a few weeks back where it was a shocking 32 degrees) is completely irrelevant to us because we’ll be photographing your sessions in the climate controlled comforts of your home.

Need I say more?

Pantry Power

What’s pantry power? Maybe you’ve never heard the term, but you know the power of the pantry well…and the sway that a favorite snack has over any member of your family, especially your little ones. Believe it or not, a lot of the time, snacks are a big part of a portrait session with me. Sometimes a little treat (especially one that comes with little risk of a mess – think Cheerios, puffs or pretzel sticks) is just the thing to cheer up a cranky toddler, or infuse a bit of fresh energy into a kiddo whose energy is lagging. Nothing beats having the pantry within arms reach for exactly these occasions!

Wardrobes for the Win

You know what else is absolutely amazing to have at arm’s reach? Your family’s entire wardrobe. Okay, okay – maybe you don’t need every article of clothing you own. But, we all know kids can get dirty and babies have blowouts and spit-ups and sometimes, these perfectly natural situations also spill over (literally and figuratively) onto you, Mama. Having a clothing change for everyone a few steps away is a pretty nice insurance policy, even if you never have to use it.

Potty Proximity

Outdoor sessions can be lovely, but I’ve rarely encountered an outdoor photo location with an easily accessible public bathroom. And, let’s face it – sometimes you need one, and your potty-training toddler always does. Being within steps to a bathroom is another huge advantage of your photo session taking place in the comfort of your own home.

Mother Nature isn’t Invited

We covered extremes in temperature already, but you know what else you can cross off your worry list for an in-home session? Bugs. You can also cross off grass. Yes, grass is pretty, but in my nine plus years of photographing little ones, I can’t tell you how many kids hate the itchy, prickly and tickly feel of grass on their feet. What I’m getting at here is that Mother Nature comes with its challenges, but I can promise that YOU will be the only mother invited to our in-home session.

Comforts of Home

In-home sessions mean you have access to all of the comforts of home, literally. Your kiddos’ blankies and lovies. All the picture books to open up and read together. A welcoming bed to snuggle and jump on. All of these items and places within your home that bring you and your family the most peace and the most memories – there is nothing more beautiful than being able to capture you right there in your element, and quite simply at home.
