5 Tips for Hiring a Newborn Photographer
Congratulations! What an exciting time! Being an expectant mom can be overwhelming. Everyone has advice and is more than willing to share it. Sometimes it is super helpful and, let’s face it, sometimes not so much.
NPS Photography wants to fall into the SUPER HELPFUL category by providing you with 5 tips to hiring a newborn photographer. Hopefully, this will make one “to do” a lot easier!
ONE When should I book? The best time to book a newborn photographer is in the second or third trimester. Typically newborns sessions are done in the first two weeks, so getting on a photographer’s calendar before the baby arrives is importrant. *DON’T STRESS if your baby has already arrived!* Many photographers have several options for sessions and there is still time to book! So, still inquire.
TWO What type of session do you want? Lifestyle? Studio? Posed? Lifestyle sessions are usually done in your home. A posed newborn session is usually done at a studio. Make sure you look at the photographers portfolio and see what speaks to your heart. It’s important to remember these portraits are for YOU and need to be what you want.
THREE Who do you want included in the session? Just the baby? Siblings? Parents? Maybe you will have grandparents in-town and you want them included, too. Make sure everyone you want can be part of the portrait session.
FOUR Style. What is your style? Do you like bright colors or neutrals? Do you prefer simple images that are all about the newborn or would you like lots of props used in the set-ups. Make sure your style aligns with the photographer you choose.
FIVE Experience. You want to hire a newborn photographer who is licensed and insured. Ask them about their experience and training. It’s important. They will be handling your brand new baby.
