Baby G was an angel for her session with this Southern Pines Baby Photographer. Her session was a Newborn Mini Session, which is a quick 30-45 minute session with a few simple set-ups. These sessions are quick because I take the images whether the baby is awake or asleep.
Ideally, I want newborns asleep for their session. I create the best environment for your newborn to sleep. To start, I turn the heat up! I like the studio to be between 80-85 degrees. How do I do this? I turn the studio heat up to 74 and I use two space heaters to do the rest. This way the studio is warm, but the waiting area is comfortable for family members to cool off in during the session when they get hot. I also use an EO organic lavender hand sanitizer on my hands. Lavender is known for it’s calming effect.
My clients also receive instructions in their confirmation about how to prepare for their session. If nursing, I recommend mom stays away from certain foods known to cause gas for about 48 hours before the session. I also recommend fully feeding the baby before the session (or if you live more than 30 minutes away, feeding them when you get to the studio). A full tummy makes a sleepy baby.
The other two things this Southern Pines baby photographer recommends is bringing a pacifier and bringing the newborn in something that doesn’t need to go over their head. I know a lot of people are against pacifiers, but it can make a difference in your session. Some babies needs to suck on something to soothe themselves. And taking something (a onesie for instance) off over their hear can wake them. We want them asleep!
Whether you newborn sleeps through the entire session or falls asleep during it, I promise to get amazing images of your new little one.
